*Sheikh Mustafa Umar was born and raised in Southern California. He holds a B.A. in Islamic Studies from the European Institute of Islamic Sciences as well as a B.S. in Information and Computer Science from the University of California, Irvine. He has travelled extensively and studied under scholars from around the world, particularly at Nadwatul Ulama in India and scholars from Al-Azhar and Darul Ulum in Egypt. He has served as a Religious Director at the King Fahad Mosque in Culver City, CA and the Imam and Associate Director of the Islamic Society of Corona-Norco. He is currently pursuing his M.A. in Islamic Studies in the UK.
Q. What is the course about?
A. The course is about Ali ibn Abi Talib who was the cousin and son in-law of the prophet and father of the two beloved fragrances, Al-Hasan and Al-Hussain. The course will seek to explore and learn lessons from the life, mission and legacy of Ali ibn abi Talib (May Allah honour his face).
Q. What will we learn?
A. By the end of the course student will have an understanding of:
- Ali’s birth and noble lineage
- How he embraced Islam
- What role he played in the movement of the prophet.
- His Jihad against the enemies
- How he became the caliph
- His relationship with Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman
- His stance with regards to the murders of Uthman
- His martyrdom
Q. Is the teacher going to use any particular book on 'Aqidah?
A. The course will be based on the most authentic narrations of the life of Ali ibn Abi Talib and will be presented from the viewpoint of Ahlus Sunnah wal-Jama’ah.
Q. Will you be providing course materials?
A. Yes, there will be some basic course materials.
Q. Is the course only for brothers?
A. No, the course is open to both brothers and sisters.
